Great video Mark! Thanks for the great information. I have a gas stove but this technology is great! Missing your live videos!
What about the garbage disposal??? With or not ?
Previous home had marble and I absolutely hated it. Everything stained it including water. Just installed quartz in my new home and couldn’t be happier.
My brother is an ID, he has a huge kitchen with a lot of huge drawers all around the kitchen which are fully utilized and a lot of upper cabinets storage as well as a pullout cabinet. A few years into it, their counter top are completely cluttered with daily appliances and food. However, almost all of their upper cabinets are empty and some of their lower door cabinets such as under stove and sink are half empty because they only put stuff where they can access directly and nothing else at the back. I have the tiniest, old kitchen where all of the lower cabinets are doors, only 3 doors to be exact and 1 tiny column of drawers. Despite the small space, we stored nothing except for a few spare bottles of dishwashing liquid in our lower cabinets. Over the years, we have decluttered non-stop, even stored in the built-in oven which we never used but we just won't use the cabinets. Needless to say, with such a kitchen, we do not cook at all, all daily appliances are stored and forgotten in our upper cabinets. In short, I think cabinet doors are best avoided when possible and upper cabinets are almost redundant unless the appliances or items are useless or forgotten. Hence, I am not too sure about library ladder. I think that balancing act would put me off.
Hi mark, how do we get hold of you? We are renovating an older home in Osoyoos BC. We need help with the kitchen!
Thanks to planned obsolescence, after I had 2 induction stoves, I bought the older coil type stove. This might be a life saver.
REEEE-no. As in Reno, Nevada.
This is like my kitchen L shaped / small size: 10 sq ft by 14 sq ft 176"
This was very entertaining
I hate lazy Susan’s but hers was 🔥
14:08 no please 😮 it's a torture for the brain
I hate it when people try to be over efficient with space and try to use every millimeters square of their kitchen. Please just put regular shelf in the corner and put things that you use not that regularly. Please stop the madness
Sounds like a great product, and I really appreciate the video. I used to have a propane stove with an all-over cast iron grate, which was so much safer than normal burners. So I think this cast iron plates would be not only more heat safe, but also more durable and stable. But I am a little 'burned' by the term 'old coil stove'. We just are just renovating a kitchen in a new-to-us home, and had to get the most affordable new appliances we could. The only thing in my budget was a coil stove. So it might be an old problem, but it is definitely not an old stove. So the statements made about affordability in the video certainly resonated.
13:47 haha, i got something like this but more red and black streaks. Looks awful and now any change feels like a downgrade. Im not sure what to do as i want light, neutral colours than 90s red brown darks. Not sure what to do. Laminex until it is in trend again?
I have a gaudy red and black granite counter. I need to update to something light and neutral but replacing also seems like a downgrade. What do?
Where is the comparison of the time each takes to boil a pot of water?
This is about fire safety.
@@MTKDofficial Yeah, but seriously, how long? If I need to boil six ounces of pasta for eight minutes in four quarts of water, do I need to start it yesterday?
People who put their microwave oven in a pantry behind doors must not use it very much. That seems so impractical.
Love My Pot Filler I’ve had it for twelve years and has never given me any problems. I keep it clean. When I clean my stove I always clean the pot filler. I don’t regret getting it and I get many compliments onnn no it
Wait that’s completely dumb, unless that’s induction (which is not the case) the whole point of the hob is to get hot to heat the pan. “we make it not hot” is such an oxymoron. If you want a lower heat you know what is the other solution? lower the heat… This “invention” is a waste of energy…
It's an affordable replacement for older coil burner stoves.
I❤ kitchen ladders
Induction cooktops and ranges - problem solved...these cast iron plates are a great replacement for retrofitting coil stoves but in longrun, the induction is the solution...
I will never have a gas stove, I almost set my house on fire. I prefer an induction if possible.
THANK YOU!!! I needed to put out a small flame in my grandfather's house when he was living at 84 years old. We still keep things close to the stove; so careless, senseless and conditioned to do so 😑
Another excellent argument for induction cooktops.
Love the ending! So glad to see you back!! Out kickin' around Tdot, eh? Seriously, this is a very important video. I'm going up to see my Dad in Pennsylvania in July. I don't remember for sure if he has coils on the stove, but if he does, I'm definitely getting these for him. Great for safety and peace of mind! Thanks!
Hey Teri-Joe! Thanks! I had a lot of fun doing this video. It was nice to be on location in the big city. lol
Is there a solution out there where the counter top square in the corner can be raised by a motor? Normally you just have it down, but on rare occasions you can raise it to access items?
Yeah there are several products like this. Qanto is one of them.
Thank you. This was extremely educational. I shared with my children who are living on their own.
This is cool. I think people are so busy or preoccupied that it's easy to get careless when cooking. Another thing I will NEVER have is a stove with the control knobs on the front. They can be easily bumped by kids, pets or caught on clothes when reaching for something on the rear burner. There was an accident last fall in town where a family ran out to a football game and left a pizza box on the stove. One of their two dogs turned on the stove while trying to get the pizza and started a fire. It destroyed the entire house and the dogs.
Since I’ve always cooked with gas I’d never have a stove with the knobs at the back since you would then have to reach over an open flame. But they can still be at the front without facing out. Mine face up in front of the burners and you have to both push them in and turn at the same time so they can’t be knocked in accidentally. Not sure if any electric knobs are like that or not.
Human Tetris!
Wowza! Is something similar available for those of us with gas stoves? May need to check this out. Thanks, Mark!
I shared this video with two people who have older coil type stoves.
Ok...surprise me again...not only do you teach us the beauty a kitchen can be....you taught us functional options... price matters plan it out.....and now safety...wrap it up and put a bow on it 🎁😂😂😂😂😂 🎁 the end hillarious...loved hearing Amy laugh❤❤❤😅😂
The only cooking fires I've had were with the coil burners. I always said a gas stove is safer than those!
Scary stuff. I have a couple compact fire blankets in my wall cabinet next to stove. I also switched to a stove with controls in front.
I wonder about their business model and price point since so few people still have coil type electric stoves these days. He makes a good point that those most likely to are older or low income renters, but I’m not sure people in that category would or could spend that much money to reconfigure an old appliance as opposed to replacing it. Most rental units I’ve seen in the last twenty years have had smooth top electric, maybe because landlords recognized the lower fire risk and the impact it has on their insurance rates. But my mom does still have a coil burner electric at the cottage. My guess is seeing this would make her replace the stove with a smooth top rather than retrofit it though.
I’d estimate that 80% to 90% of apartments in Western Canada still have coil burner stoves. That's probably over a million just in that one area. (In much of the West gas ranges couldn’t legally be used in multi-unit rentals; in some places they still can't. Everyone had coil ranges, and those don't get replaced until they disintegrate.)
Why would you put paper on your burning stove?😂😂😂😂😂
I’ve never placed any paper on any stove whether it is on or off. I keep my paper towels near the sink.
There is a setting on the new Thermador gas cooktops so low that they posted a video of melting chocolate chips on a paper plate.
You missed the point.
Yeah, you’re back! I’ve been going through withdrawal! 😂
If a fire starts in the kitchen, even if you put it out, call the fire department. They can make sure that there's no fire in the wall or cabinets
How there can be fire in the wall?
@@aleksandrac9335 If there is a cold air return or vent near where the flames were it could easily happen.
Your video is sucks !!
Hi Mark, love your channel getting ready to jump both feet first into a kitchen design most likely Ikea. Question- are there companies that install Ikea kitchens? I'm in southern california. Just want to price out what this would cost us versus total DIY. Thanks
Hey! Thanks for saying Hi. I'm sure there are contractors who will install IKEA cabinets for you. But also price it out through IKEA to see if it is less expensive. You can also save money by assembling them yourself and just having them installed by others.
Thanks!
I like several deep drawers for pots as I have a lot. Also a tray door for lap trays. If I had a choice I'd have all drawers for the bottom cupboards as I'm elderly and have arthritis so I can't kneel or bend - its much easier to pull out a drawer to see and reach whats inside. I also like a mini pantry for smaller kitchen which also houses a spice rack. My present kitchen has a cuboard with pull out racks for vegetables which I really like
One day I’ll be able to move out of my prius
Get the crockery. 😂😅😂
